Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week - Activities for Kids by BASE Staff
During Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week we take a look back at some of the great programs and activities that BASE Staff members created for the kids. As we have been providing some resources and activities for kids in our Daily Family Resource Guides during this time, which you can find right here in the BASE Program Blog beginning on March 16th, we hope you find some fun activities created by our BASE Staff that you can do at home. Thank you to all BASE Staff who put time and talent into creating quality, enriching programs!
Miss Abbey - Cat in the Hat Fruit Kabobs
I always know that Miss Abbey, BASE Barrie Site Coordinator, is up to something fun when her supply list includes food items from the grocery store. She helped the kids celebrate Read Across America Week and Dr. Seuss by creating a healthy treat together. Fruit, marshmallows, chocolate icing, and skewers can be made into Cat in the Hat Fruit Kabobs.
Miss Beth - Crafts & Puzzles
There is always a lot of excitement behind the activity choices that Miss Beth, BASE Rockwell Site Coordinator, presents to the kids every afternoon. Crafts were very popular with the kids at BASE Rockwell this school year. Kids can create numerous crafts and art projects with basic supplies at home. Keep cardboard for coloring or painting and then help your child cut the sheet of cardboard into fun pieces to make an original work of art puzzle.
Miss Megan - Moon Sand
Miss Megan, BASE Purdy Site Coordinator, creates and engages in kids in hands-on activities that educate and keep them having fun together after school. Supporting imaginative play, teamwork building activities and reading, Miss Megan made Moon Sand with the kids one afternoon and they didn’t want to stop playing they enjoyed it so much.
Moon Sand Recipe
The ratio to make moon sand is simple – 8 cups of all purpose flour : 1 cup of vegetable oil. Add a little more flour if the mixture feels too damp, a teaspoon or two more vegetable oil if not combining as well as desired.
